Eli Lilly, philanthropist, Union soldier, entrepreneur and found of Eli Lilly, joined the Civil War in April 1861. After the war, his family moved to Mississippi and then to Indiana where he eventually formed Eli Lilly and Company which grew to become one of the largest pharmaceutical corporations in the world.
