Arthur MacArthur, Jr., planted the regimental flag on the crest of Missionary Ridge during the Chattanooga Campaign. He was recommended for the Medal of Honor and brevetted colonel making him the youngest colonel in the Union. The medal wasn't awarded for 27 years. Nearly 80 years later, Arthur's son, Douglas, a 3 star Lieutenant General, was awarded the same medal for his defense of the Philippines during WWII.
